Refrigerated transport · Greater London

Your fresh products in London, delivered at the right temperature.

London’s central kitchens, food producers and wholesalers make at night and deliver at dawn. Shippr organises that refrigerated transport, chilled or frozen, from your production units to quick-service restaurants (QSR), hospitality venues, shops and supermarkets across Greater London.

Cold against London’s rules

Why a refrigerated round is not planned in London as it is elsewhere

A fridge unit, a diesel engine, the ULEZ

Most refrigerated vans run on diesel, and the ULEZ requires Euro 6 across all of Greater London, 24 hours a day. We only send compliant refrigerated vehicles: your cold chain never hangs on a £12.50 charge or a £180 penalty.

At night, when London produces

The fruit and vegetable wholesalers at New Covent Garden trade from 10pm to 6am, and most of our customers with a central kitchen or a production unit work at night too. We collect as production ends and deliver to restaurants, shops and supermarkets before they open to the public.

A round planned back from delivery

A restaurant takes delivery before service, a quick-service restaurant before its first breakfast customers. We start from those delivery times and plan the round backwards to the end of production; if the arrival time moves, your recipient is told.

Local rules checked in October 2026.

In practice

The cold is prepared before the vehicle moves

What breaks a cold chain in London is rarely the fridge unit: it is the waiting. A vehicle held up on a red route, a shop still closed when it arrives, a loading dock already taken, and the product spends minutes outside that it should never have spent there. So we plan the time as carefully as the temperature.

Before the first round, we agree with you the storage range, the loading temperature, the packaging and the handling instructions. The vehicle is pre-cooled, reserved for your job, and goes from your production unit to your recipients with no stop at a warehouse. On regular rounds, a temperature logger travels on every run; and when your customers take delivery before service, the round leaves at night.

What our London customers carry

  • A Pret A Manger franchisee supplied its shops with three refrigerated vehicles and its own drivers. Its production managers stopped managing drivers and vans and went back to their own jobs.
  • Symplicity Foods delivers its frozen plant-based dishes to London restaurants; its customers’ complaints fell by 90%.
  • Kim’s Food replaced several providers with rigid schedules by refrigerated rounds at a fixed price.

The service

Our refrigerated transport, in three points

These three commitments are the same everywhere we deliver; in London, they are organised around the ULEZ, the Congestion Charge and red routes.

Cold-chain expertise

Refrigerated transport starts before departure

Pre-cooling the vehicle, temperature at loading, handling instructions: our team agrees the necessary precautions with you and passes them on to the transport partners.

On your regular refrigerated rounds, data loggers track temperatures during transport. If there is a deviation or anything unexpected, our team coordinates the response with the carrier and keeps you informed.

Tailor-made

The right vehicle, from chilled to frozen

Crates, boxes or pallets: Shippr brings in equipped partners for your volumes and your temperature needs, from 0–4 °C to 0–7 °C, or −20 °C for your frozen products.

One-off delivery or a round between your stores, shops and restaurants: we adapt the transport capacity, the frequency of stops and the loading arrangements to the way you work.

The unexpected should not disrupt your business

A carrier unavailable, a vehicle off the road or a rise in orders? The Shippr team finds a replacement that meets your temperature requirements and adjusts the organisation of your rounds.

We coordinate the changes with the partners and let you know the new times, to limit the impact on your supply and your customers.

Frequently asked questions

Refrigerated transport in London: your questions

Does a refrigerated vehicle pay the Congestion Charge?

Yes, like any vehicle in the zone during its hours: £18 a day, £9 for an electric van registered for Auto Pay. A night round that finishes before 7am on a weekday is not affected.

Can you collect from a wholesaler at New Covent Garden?

Yes. The fruit and vegetable market trades from 10pm to 6am on weekdays: we plan the collection in that window and deliver to your points of sale before they open.

Which temperature ranges do you offer?

Chilled, from 0–4 °C to 0–7 °C, for fresh products; frozen, at −20 °C. The partner we send is equipped for the range your products need, and the vehicle is pre-cooled before loading.

What happens if the temperature drifts during a round?

On regular rounds, a data logger tracks the temperature throughout the journey. If it leaves the agreed range, our team tells you straight away and decides the next step with you.

Do you deliver small quantities to many sites?

Yes. Eat Planted, a maker of frozen plant-based food, delivers to hundreds of schools with Shippr this way, in small orders its previous provider turned down.
