Cold, in Brussels

What the city changes for a refrigerated vehicle

A refrigerated van that is allowed in

A refrigerated van is usually a diesel. Since 1 January 2026, diesels rated Euro 5 or older no longer drive in the 19 communes, on pain of a €350 fine. We send refrigerated vehicles that are allowed: the cold does not stop at the edge of the zone.

Night-time collections

Most of our customers with a central kitchen or a production workshop work through the night. We collect their products as production ends, or from their wholesalers such as Mabru, and deliver to restaurants, shops and supermarkets before they open.

Short receiving windows

A restaurant takes delivery before service, a shop before it opens, and the pedestrian zone closes to vehicles at 11am. We build your rounds around those hours, by day and by night.

Local rules checked in September 2026.

How it works

A cold chain prepared before departure

In Brussels, refrigerated transport comes down to two things: the temperature and the hour. The product has to stay within its storage range, and it has to arrive when someone is there to receive it.

Before departure, our team agrees the necessary precautions with you: pre-cooling the vehicle, the temperature at loading, the handling instructions. We send partners equipped for your volumes and your temperatures, from 0–4 °C to 0–7 °C for chilled, or −20 °C for frozen. On your regular rounds, data loggers make it possible to follow the temperatures during transport.

Who it is for

An example in Brussels

Debaenst, a meat wholesaler, delivers to its Brussels customers at night from Mons. Shippr replaced five vehicles with one and reaches 98% of deliveries successful at the first attempt. Read the case study.

The service

What our refrigerated transport includes

The same service as everywhere we deliver. Here is how it is organised.

Cold-chain expertise

Refrigerated transport starts before departure

Pre-cooling the vehicle, temperature at loading, handling instructions: our team agrees the necessary precautions with you and passes them on to the transport partners.

On your regular refrigerated rounds, data loggers track temperatures during transport. If there is a deviation or anything unexpected, our team coordinates the response with the carrier and keeps you informed.

Crates, boxes or pallets: Shippr brings in equipped partners for your volumes and your temperature needs, from 0–4 °C to 0–7 °C, or −20 °C for your frozen products.

One-off delivery or a round between your stores, shops and restaurants: we adapt the transport capacity, the frequency of stops and the loading arrangements to the way you work.

Service continuity

The unexpected should not disrupt your business

A carrier unavailable, a vehicle off the road or a rise in orders? The Shippr team finds a replacement that meets your temperature requirements and adjusts the organisation of your rounds.

We coordinate the changes with the partners and let you know the new times, to limit the impact on your supply and your customers.

Frequently asked questions

Refrigerated transport in Brussels, in practice

What temperatures can you maintain?

Chilled, from 0–4 °C to 0–7 °C, and frozen at −20 °C. We send a partner equipped for the storage range of your products.

Can your refrigerated vehicles enter the Brussels low-emission zone?

Yes. The zone covers the 19 communes and, since 1 January 2026, excludes diesel vans rated Euro 5 or older. For a delivery in Brussels, we send a refrigerated vehicle that is allowed.

Do you deliver at night or early in the morning?

Yes. Supply before opening, collection at the early-morning market, night rounds: we organise your refrigerated transport at the hours your customers take delivery.

How is the temperature monitored?

On your regular refrigerated rounds, data loggers make it possible to follow the temperatures during transport. If there is a deviation, our team coordinates the response with the carrier and keeps you informed.
