Oxford · Refrigerated transport

In Oxford and across Oxfordshire, we deliver your chilled and frozen goods around your constraints.

Our partner couriers in Oxford collect meat, fish, dairy, ready meals and frozen goods at night or before dawn, from your wholesaler or your central kitchen, then deliver to your restaurants, shops and supermarkets in the centre, in Cherwell or in South Oxfordshire before they open to the public, in a refrigerated vehicle reserved for your goods.

Refrigerated in Oxford

Three Oxford rules we apply to our refrigerated rounds

We deliver to your customers in central Oxford before they open to the public

The courier collects your products at night or before dawn, and we place each stop of the round in the window your customer’s address allows, before they open to the public. In the centre, those windows follow published hours: from 6.30pm to 7.30am, any vehicle may use the High Street gate between Queen’s Lane and Catte Street, and from 6pm to 10am a vehicle may enter George Street to unload. If a window cannot be met, we tell you as soon as you book.

We can deliver to your restaurant while it is still closed, with the codes or keys you entrust to us

Market Street is closed to motor vehicles day and night: the courier stops in a marked loading bay and carries your products on foot to your door. If no one is there to take delivery before opening, the courier can let themselves in with the codes or keys you entrust to us and put your products away in the cold room of your restaurant or shop.

We give each of your customers an arrival time calculated on the night-time route

At night, Castle Street, Magdalen Street and Folly Bridge remain reserved for buses, taxis, private hire vehicles and emergency vehicles, as during the day, and cameras record offences. Our routing algorithms take the courier round those three gates, and the time we give each customer on the round allows for that detour.

Local rules checked in October 2026.

How we work

We deliver to Oxford’s city centre at night, when more streets are open to vehicles

We build each refrigerated round in Oxford between the moment your production run finishes and the time your first customer opens. At night, the rules of the centre leave more roads open than during the day: until 7.30am, any vehicle may use the High Street gate between Queen’s Lane and Catte Street; until 10am, the courier may enter George Street to unload; and the zero emission zone charge only applies from 7am. For a stop in one of the zone’s 9 streets after 7am, we book a vehicle compliant with the zone.

At the start, we agree together on how your products are packed, the temperature range of each and the time each customer takes delivery. We give the job to one of our partner couriers in Oxford, chosen for their refrigerated vehicle, which is reserved for your goods and set to the temperature range they need; the courier brings the refrigerated body down to temperature before loading and arrives at your site as soon as your production run is finished, even in the middle of the night. Because you almost always deliver to several customers, we put the stops in order on a round and place each one, in central Oxford as in Cherwell or South Oxfordshire, in the window its address allows, before your customer opens. Customers who take delivery early are served by our night deliveries. From 6am to 10pm, every day, our team follows the round and calls, on your behalf, any customer who does not answer. The full service is described on our refrigerated transport page.

The businesses that have chilled and frozen goods delivered in Oxford and Oxfordshire

  • Food wholesalers who supply restaurants in central Oxford and in the county’s towns before dawn.
  • Caterers and central kitchens who deliver every morning to their own restaurants, their shops or workplace canteens.
  • Retailers who have the chilled and frozen aisles of their shops and supermarkets in Oxford, West Oxfordshire or the Vale of White Horse filled before opening.

For products that are not sensitive to heat, our same-day delivery in Oxford is a better fit.

The service

What our refrigerated transport includes

The service is the same everywhere we deliver. In Oxford, we organise it around the hours of the High Street gate between Queen’s Lane and Catte Street and of George Street, and around the city centre’s zero emission zone.

Cold-chain expertise

Refrigerated transport starts before departure

Pre-cooling the vehicle, temperature at loading, handling instructions: our team agrees the necessary precautions with you and passes them on to the transport partners.

On your regular refrigerated rounds, data loggers track temperatures during transport. If there is a deviation or anything unexpected, our team coordinates the response with the carrier and keeps you informed.

One-off delivery or a round between your stores, shops and restaurants: we adapt the transport capacity, the frequency of stops and the loading arrangements to the way you work.

Service continuity

The unexpected should not disrupt your business

A carrier unavailable, a vehicle off the road or a rise in orders? The Shippr team finds a replacement that meets your temperature requirements and adjusts the organisation of your rounds.

We coordinate the changes with the partners and let you know the new times, to limit the impact on your supply and your customers.

Frequently asked questions

What you ask us before a refrigerated round in Oxford

At what temperature do you carry my products?

At the temperature you agree with us for each product: 0–4 °C or 0–7 °C for chilled goods depending on the product, −20 °C for frozen goods. The courier brings the vehicle to temperature before loading, and on a regular round an on-board logger records the temperature continuously: at the slightest deviation, we let you know.

My Oxford customers order both chilled and frozen goods: do I need two rounds?

No. We can book a dual-temperature vehicle, which carries your chilled products and your frozen goods on the same journey.

My round is more than a van can carry: can you send a refrigerated lorry over 3.5 t?

Yes, if one of our partners is available: when you book, we tell you whether they can take your round with a refrigerated lorry over 3.5 t.

Do you deliver chilled and frozen goods outside Oxford, in the rest of Oxfordshire?

Yes. Our refrigerated rounds cover the county’s five districts, from Oxford to West Oxfordshire and the Vale of White Horse, and can carry on anywhere in the United Kingdom.

Do you finish production overnight for Oxford customers who open early?

Tell us what you ship, at what temperature, what time your production ends and what time each customer opens. We reply with the refrigerated vehicle we suggest, its loading time and the planned arrival time at each customer.
