Newcastle · Same-day delivery

In Newcastle, we deliver your orders the same day, from Gateshead to Sunderland and Northumberland.

A pallet of stock leaving Gateshead for a shop in the centre, across the Tyne, a spare part a North Tyneside factory is waiting for, a last-minute order for a Sunderland restaurant: Shippr delivers them on D0 across the seven council areas of the North East. For each one, we plan a route clear of the reserved bus lanes and set the time when your customer can be delivered at that address, pedestrian zones included.

D0 in Newcastle

We fit every same-day order around three Newcastle and Gateshead rules

We deliver a same-day order in a pedestrian zone outside the hours shown

To stop in a pedestrian zone during its hours, a vehicle needs a council dispensation, at £30 per vehicle, requested at least 3 working days in advance: an order received in the morning cannot wait for one. If your customer is in a pedestrian zone, we place the handover before or after the hours shown at the entrance; if that pushes it to the next day, we tell you as soon as you book.

We give your customer the arrival time at the destination, based on the route the courier will actually take

Bus lanes in Newcastle operate at different times, typically 24 hours a day or 7am to 7pm, seven days a week; where no times are shown, the lane is in force 24 hours a day. During its hours, it is reserved for buses and, depending on the lane, a few other vehicles (taxis, private hire vehicles, motorcycles and cycles), but not for a van without written authorisation from the council; a contravention costs £70. Our planning and routing algorithms plan a route that avoids the lanes in force at the time of the journey, and the time of that journey is what we give your customer.

The vehicle we send for a same-day order is compliant with the Clean Air Zone

The zone covers most of central Newcastle and the routes over the Tyne, Swing, High Level and Redheugh bridges to Gateshead. A diesel van below Euro 6 pays £12.50 a day there, to be paid within 6 days or face a £120 penalty. A same-day order can cross the centre at any hour: we book a compliant van from the outset, and you have nothing to pay or declare.

Local rules checked in October 2026.

How we work

We check when you book that we can deliver to your customer within the day

For a same-day delivery in Newcastle, we choose the route first. Bus lanes signed from 7am to 7pm are reserved during those hours, those with no times shown are reserved 24 hours a day, and a van does not enter them without written authorisation from the council; to get from Gateshead to the centre, the courier takes a bridge whose route is part of the Clean Air Zone, or the Tyne Tunnels further east. When your customer is in a pedestrian zone, the time of your order matters as much as the journey: an order received during the hours shown is delivered once those hours have passed, since a dispensation must be requested 3 working days in advance. Our team tells your customer when the courier will arrive and reaches the courier if a stop changes, every day from 6am to 10pm.

When you book, we check for each address which side of the Tyne it is on, whether it is in a pedestrian zone and when your customer expects the goods. Several addresses make a round, whose stops we order to limit river crossings. The partner courier who loads at your site carries only your goods, without going through a sorting centre. For a small restock, we send a van, from 5 m³; when you load several pallets, a truck that can exceed 20 m³.

The businesses that deliver within the day in Newcastle, Gateshead and Sunderland

  • Retailers that store in Gateshead and restock their shops in central Newcastle, across the Tyne, or move stock from one shop to another with a store-to-store transfer.
  • Factories in County Durham and Sunderland that order a spare part in the morning for a machine that has stopped.
  • Food wholesalers and caterers who add what is missing from a city-centre restaurant’s order during the day, and deliver it outside its pedestrian zone’s hours.

Tailor-made

An organisation that fits your everyday

A collection at a supplier, a restocking round or orders to deliver to your customers: Shippr organises your transport the same day, from the first to the last mile.

Together we define the vehicles, the time slots and the instructions that suit your volumes, your packaging and the storage requirements of your goods. For a one-off job as much as for regular rounds, our operations team coordinates the partners, follows the deliveries and stays your point of contact when something unexpected comes up.

Operational efficiency

Less handling, a smoother flow

Your goods travel from the collection point to their destinations without passing through a sorting centre. Fewer intermediate handlings means less risk of breakage, and the chance to cut back on over-packaging and save on your packaging costs, while keeping the packaging your products need.

The Shippr team follows the progress of the deliveries, coordinates the exchanges with the partners and steps in when something unexpected happens. From your dashboard you find the statuses and the proof of receipt, to inform your customers and organise the rest of your activity.

Frequently asked questions

What you ask us about same-day delivery in Newcastle

What does D0 mean for a delivery in Newcastle?

D0 means the same day: we collect your goods and hand them over to your customer on the day of the order, without passing them through a sorting centre. In Newcastle, we also deliver the same day to an address in a pedestrian zone, outside the hours shown at the zone’s entrance, during which a vehicle cannot stop there.

Can you deliver within the day to a customer in a pedestrian zone?

Yes, if we can deliver outside the hours shown at the zone’s entrance. A dispensation must be requested at least 3 working days in advance, too late for a same-day order; so when you book, we give you the possible time, or we tell you the delivery cannot be made within the day.

Do you deliver the same day from Newcastle to Sunderland or County Durham?

Yes. We collect in Newcastle and deliver to Sunderland, County Durham or Northumberland within the day, as we do across the rest of the North East.

Where does the courier stop to unload an urgent order?

Where the council allows loading: on a yellow line with no loading ban when the goods are heavy, bulky or in several parcels, and never at double yellow kerb marks, which ban loading at all times.

Does a Newcastle customer need delivering today?

Send us the collection address, your customers’ addresses and each one’s deadline. We will tell you which addresses are in a pedestrian zone and whether the route crosses the Tyne, then confirm the vehicle and the time of the stop at each customer.
