Cambridge · Same-day delivery

In Cambridge, we deliver the same day, in the city as in Cambourne, Histon or Sawston.

A restock a city-centre shop needs before the weekend, a spare part for a machine that has stopped at a Cambourne business, the items missing from a Histon restaurant’s order: Shippr delivers them on D0, in Cambridge and across South Cambridgeshire. For each one, we check when you book what time we can deliver to your customer’s address and which route the courier takes to reach it, then give you the delivery time.

What Cambridge’s access rules change for a same-day order

We deliver to your customer in the historic centre from 4pm

From 10am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday, no vehicle enters the historic centre without a permit, and no one loads or unloads there. An order placed mid-morning for an address inside that area is therefore handed over from 4pm, the same day. We give you that time when you book, and we tell you straight away if we cannot deliver to your customer the same day.

The delivery time we give you already allows for the detour a van must make across the city

A van may not cross the Mill Road bridge, Bridge Street or Silver Street, which are bus gates day and night, and on Hills Road the inbound bus lane is in force from 7am to 7pm; driving through costs £70, reduced to £35 if paid within 21 days. For an order that crosses the city from one ward to another, we take the route allowed at the time of the journey, even when it is longer, and that is the route we use to work out the time given to your customer.

We also deliver in the evening to an address closed to vehicles during the day

In front of King’s College, a barrier closes King’s Parade every day from 9.30am to 7pm, and no vehicle gets through. Because we deliver the same day seven days a week, by day and by night, an order received after 9.30am for an address behind that barrier is handed over after 7pm, and you know that time as soon as you book.

Local rules checked in October 2026.

How we work

When you book, we check that every customer can receive their delivery today

For a same-day delivery in Cambridge, we look at the time first. An order for the historic centre is delivered before 10am or from 4pm, Monday to Saturday, and an address on King’s Parade before 9.30am or after 7pm. Then comes the route: the Mill Road bridge, Bridge Street and Silver Street are bus gates day and night, so a van crossing the city often makes a detour by the main roads. Our algorithms build that detour in, and we give your customer the arrival time worked out on that route. You track each handover in real time, with its proof of delivery, and you can reach our team every day from 6am to 10pm.

When you book, we check for each address whether it is in the historic centre, behind the King’s Parade barrier or in a South Cambridgeshire village, and what time your customer expects their goods. Several addresses make a round, whose stops we put in order around those access hours. The partner courier who loads at your site carries only your goods. For a few parcels or a small restock, we send a van, from 5 m³; for several pallets, a lorry that can exceed 20 m³.

The businesses that deliver the same day in Cambridge and its villages

  • Retailers who restock their historic-centre shops before 10am, or move stock from one shop to another with a store-to-store transfer.
  • South Cambridgeshire businesses that order a spare part in the morning for a machine that has stopped and want it in the afternoon.
  • Food wholesalers and caterers who top up a restaurant’s order the same day, delivered from 4pm when it is in the historic centre.

When a city-centre restaurant’s order has to travel chilled

When a historic-centre restaurant expects meat, fish or ready meals before 10am, our couriers collect them before dawn and deliver them in a refrigerated vehicle: that is our refrigerated transport in Cambridge.

The service

What our same-day (D0) delivery includes

This service is the same in all our cities. In Cambridge, we organise it around the historic centre’s access hours and the bus gates, which our couriers go round to cross the city.

Tailor-made

An organisation that fits your everyday

A collection at a supplier, a restocking round or orders to deliver to your customers: Shippr organises your transport the same day, from the first to the last mile.

Together we define the vehicles, the time slots and the instructions that suit your volumes, your packaging and the storage requirements of your goods. For a one-off job as much as for regular rounds, our operations team coordinates the partners, follows the deliveries and stays your point of contact when something unexpected comes up.

Operational efficiency

Less handling, a smoother flow

Your goods travel from the collection point to their destinations without passing through a sorting centre. Fewer intermediate handlings means less risk of breakage, and the chance to cut back on over-packaging and save on your packaging costs, while keeping the packaging your products need.

The Shippr team follows the progress of the deliveries, coordinates the exchanges with the partners and steps in when something unexpected happens. From your dashboard you find the statuses and the proof of receipt, to inform your customers and organise the rest of your activity.

Frequently asked questions

What you ask us about same-day delivery in Cambridge

What does D0 mean for a delivery in Cambridge?

D0 means the same day: the courier collects your goods and hands them over to your customer on the day of the order, without passing through a depot. In Cambridge, that also applies to an address in the historic centre, which we then deliver to before 10am or from 4pm, Monday to Saturday.

My order goes from Cambridge to a South Cambridgeshire village: will it arrive the same day?

Yes. We deliver the same day across South Cambridgeshire, from Cambourne to Sawston and from Cottenham to Great Shelford, as in Cambridge’s 14 wards. We give you the delivery time as soon as you book.

Do you deliver the same day at weekends?

Yes. We deliver the same day seven days a week, by day and by night. The historic centre’s closure to vehicles, from 10am to 4pm, applies Monday to Saturday: a Saturday order for an address inside that area is handed over before 10am or from 4pm.

Does a Cambridge customer need their delivery today?

Send us the collection point and each customer’s address with the time they expect their order; we pick out those in the historic centre and on King’s Parade, then confirm the vehicle and the time it reaches each one.
