Birmingham · Refrigerated transport

In Birmingham, your customers get your chilled and frozen goods before they open.

Our partner couriers in Birmingham call at wholesalers and central kitchens across the seven boroughs, from Wolverhampton to Coventry, when your chilled and frozen products come off the line, before dawn. Their refrigerated van complies with the Clean Air Zone, diesel Euro 6, petrol Euro 4 or electric: day or night, the zone costs you nothing.

Our night refrigerated rounds in Birmingham

Three Birmingham rules that change a refrigerated round

We assign a refrigerated vehicle that complies with the Clean Air Zone

In the Clean Air Zone, a diesel van below Euro 6, or a petrol van below Euro 4, pays £8 for each calendar day, from midnight to 11.59pm: a round that entered at 6pm and left at 2am would pay twice. We hand yours to a diesel Euro 6, petrol Euro 4 or electric refrigerated vehicle, which pays nothing, and the zone costs you nothing, whatever the time of the last drop.

We place your stops outside the hours of the morning bus lanes

No vehicle parks in a bus lane during the hours shown on its sign. On Harborne Road, for example, it has been in force Monday to Saturday from 7am to 10am and from 4pm to 7pm since 12 June 2026. A round that set off during the night delivers there before 7am, or stops outside the lane, at a time we set when you book.

Our routes avoid the camera-enforced banned turns

At the junction of Newhall Street and Great Charles Queensway (A4400), both the left and the right turn are banned, and a camera records the offence: a £70 penalty. We draw up the round’s route without those turns before it leaves, so that the order of the stops keeps to each of your customers’ delivery times.

Local rules checked in October 2026.

How we work

We agree the temperature with you before the first round

A night refrigerated round starts before the first collection. The vehicle is brought to temperature before loading, picks up each batch as it comes off production, then delivers to your customers in the order of their delivery times, in the centre as in the six other boroughs. Its route is drawn up before it leaves, clear of the bus lanes during their hours and without the centre’s banned turns.

Before the first round, we agree with you how your products are packed, the temperature range they need (chilled at 0–4 °C or 0–7 °C depending on the products, frozen at −20 °C) and each customer’s delivery instructions. On a regular round, an on-board logger records that temperature continuously, and our team alerts you as soon as it leaves your range. The job then goes to a partner courier equipped for that range and for your volume, from a refrigerated van to a 20 m³ truck. Most often it is a round, and often a night delivery. The service itself is described on the page for our refrigerated transport, which makes up most of our work.

The service

What our refrigerated transport includes

The service is the same in all our cities. In Birmingham, it is organised around night rounds, a vehicle that complies with the Clean Air Zone and the morning bus lanes.

Cold-chain expertise

Refrigerated transport starts before departure

Pre-cooling the vehicle, temperature at loading, handling instructions: our team agrees the necessary precautions with you and passes them on to the transport partners.

On your regular refrigerated rounds, data loggers track temperatures during transport. If there is a deviation or anything unexpected, our team coordinates the response with the carrier and keeps you informed.

The right vehicle, from chilled to frozen

Crates, boxes or pallets: Shippr brings in equipped partners for your volumes and your temperature needs, from 0–4 °C to 0–7 °C, or −20 °C for your frozen products.

One-off delivery or a round between your stores, shops and restaurants: we adapt the transport capacity, the frequency of stops and the loading arrangements to the way you work.

The unexpected should not disrupt your business

A carrier unavailable, a vehicle off the road or a rise in orders? The Shippr team finds a replacement that meets your temperature requirements and adjusts the organisation of your rounds.

We coordinate the changes with the partners and let you know the new times, to limit the impact on your supply and your customers.

Frequently asked questions

What our customers ask before a refrigerated round in Birmingham

Is a diesel refrigerated vehicle allowed in the Clean Air Zone?

Yes, with no charge, if it meets the Euro 6 standard. We check each vehicle’s standard before giving it your round: you have no account to open with the zone, no charge to pay and no penalty to worry about.

Can you carry a large volume in a lorry over 3.5 tonnes?

It is possible, but not guaranteed. What we can say is that our vehicles go up to a 20 m³ truck; a refrigerated vehicle over 3.5 tonnes is arranged case by case, and if it enters the zone, it complies with the Clean Air Zone like the others.

Can my night round stop on a street with a bus lane?

Yes, outside the hours when the lane is in force. On Harborne Road, for example, it is in force from 7am Monday to Saturday: the round delivers there before 7am, or stops outside the lane. If your production cannot keep to that time, we tell you when you book.

Do you have a refrigerated round to set up in Birmingham?

Tell us what you carry, at what temperature, and at what time each of your customers takes delivery. We will come back with the vehicle and the order of the stops, overnight if need be.
