A part a workshop in the port needs by noon, extra stock between two shops on the Veldstraat, a parcel from Drongen for a customer in Gentbrugge: Shippr delivers them D0 across Ghent’s 14 districts, in a vehicle chosen for the address, the load and the hour the street lets vehicles in.
D0, the Ghent way
From 11am to 6pm the centre’s shopping streets belong to pedestrians, and so does the Graslei from June to September. A delivery ordered at 10am for a shop on those streets arrives before 11am if the journey allows, otherwise after 6pm. You are given the time when you book.
Each of the five areas in the historic core admits only declared number plates, and declaring one takes five working days. A same-day order into one of them therefore goes to a partner whose vehicle is already registered there, and the handover falls inside the area’s window.
The circulation plan closes the centre to through traffic: from Rabot to Portus Ganda you go round. Add the 30 km/h zone inside the R40 and the R4 works, and a Ghent journey has to be worked out on that day’s network. Our planning and routing algorithms do exactly that, and the time the recipient is promised follows from it.

How we work
Ghent is a small city, and a same-day delivery there is rarely decided by distance. It is decided by the clock. At 11am the pedestrian streets close; in the car-free areas only declared plates get in; and to get from one district to the next, the circulation plan sends you out to the R40. The real cost for your teams is finding a carrier who knows all that, then chasing the driver and the recipient until the goods change hands. We take that follow-up on ourselves.
A collection, some destinations, a volume, a deadline: that is all we need. Orders to a single address are rare, so the stops make up a multi-drop round that moves sector by sector and puts pedestrian streets before 11am or after 6pm. The job goes to a Ghent partner with the right vehicle, from a van to a 20 m³ lorry, and your goods leave it only at the handover, without passing through a sorting centre.

A handover on the day the order is placed. It is the term our customers use in their quote requests, where a standard carrier delivers D+1. In Ghent, collection and handover both happen within the day, at a time when vehicles can reach the address.
The handover has to fall before 11am or after 6pm. A morning order that cannot arrive before 11am is handed over at the end of the day, still the same day. We tell you when you book.
Yes, inside the window of the car-free area in question, 6pm to 11am for most of them, with a vehicle whose number plate is already allowed in. Give us the exact address: it is what tells us which area it is in.
For an address inside the R40 we book a vehicle that is Euro 5 or newer, or electric: it passes the LEZ cameras with no pass, day or night, without asking anything of you.
Live, on the map in your dashboard; once it is handed over, the photo and signature are added. The recipient gets a notification as the vehicle approaches.
