Edinburgh · Same-day delivery

In Edinburgh, we deliver your shipments the same day, in a vehicle allowed in the Low Emission Zone.

A Princes Street shop that runs out of an item before the afternoon, a West Lothian workshop at a standstill for want of a part, parcels a Fife online retailer sends to customers in Midlothian: we deliver all of them on D0, across the six council areas of the Edinburgh and South East Scotland city region. The vehicle suits your volume and complies with the zone, and we work out its route around the hours the bus lanes are restricted.

Same-day, the Edinburgh way

Three Edinburgh rules decide when your customer is delivered within the day

For an afternoon order, we go around the peak-time bus lanes

Monday to Friday, peak-time bus lanes generally operate from 7.30am to 9.30am, then from 4pm to 6.30pm, and a trial route between Milton Road East and London Road from 7am to 7pm every day. If you order in the early afternoon for the other side of the city, the courier goes around those lanes on the evening journey: we allow for it from the moment you book, in the time we give you.

An urgent order leaves in a vehicle allowed in the zone

Cameras enforce the Low Emission Zone at all hours, and a diesel van older than Euro 6 gets a £60 penalty charge notice the first time a camera records it in the zone. For a handover between Tollcross and Picardy Place, we give your last-minute order to a compliant vehicle, at no charge to you, rather than to the first vehicle free.

The courier unloads where stopping is allowed

On Greenway routes, a single red line bans stopping, even to unload, generally from 7.30am to 6.30pm on weekdays; the courier then uses the marked loading bays. Elsewhere, on a yellow line with no ban, they can unload for up to 30 minutes. Even when running late, they stop only where it is allowed: a penalty for stopping would delay every handover after it.

Local rules checked in October 2026.

How we work

You give us the order, we follow it through to the last handover

In Edinburgh, a morning order for an address in the centre depends less on the miles than on two choices. First the vehicle, because the council fines any non-compliant van in the Low Emission Zone; then the time, because peak-time bus lanes generally operate from 7.30am to 9.30am and from 4pm to 6.30pm. Finding a carrier who knows those rules, then chasing the driver and the customer until the handover: that is the time your teams lose, and the time we take off their hands.

You tell us the collection point, the recipients, the volume and the deadline. One of our partner couriers in Edinburgh then takes the job in a vehicle reserved for your shipments, which loads at your site and drives straight to your customers. With a single recipient, they follow the route worked out at booking; with several, we organise a round in which each stop keeps to the hours of its street. A window that cannot be kept is flagged to you at booking, and our team follows your deliveries every day from 6am to 10pm.

The service

What our same-day (D0) delivery includes

We keep these commitments in all our cities. In Edinburgh, they allow for the Low Emission Zone, the peak hours on the bus lanes and the places where the courier is allowed to unload.

Tailor-made

An organisation that fits your everyday

A collection at a supplier, a restocking round or orders to deliver to your customers: Shippr organises your transport the same day, from the first to the last mile.

Together we define the vehicles, the time slots and the instructions that suit your volumes, your packaging and the storage requirements of your goods. For a one-off job as much as for regular rounds, our operations team coordinates the partners, follows the deliveries and stays your point of contact when something unexpected comes up.

Operational efficiency

Less handling, a smoother flow

Your goods travel from the collection point to their destinations without passing through a sorting centre. Fewer intermediate handlings means less risk of breakage, and the chance to cut back on over-packaging and save on your packaging costs, while keeping the packaging your products need.

The Shippr team follows the progress of the deliveries, coordinates the exchanges with the partners and steps in when something unexpected happens. From your dashboard you find the statuses and the proof of receipt, to inform your customers and organise the rest of your activity.

Frequently asked questions

Your questions about same-day delivery in Edinburgh

What does D0 mean?

D0 means a delivery made on the day of the order: your shipment is collected and handed over the same day, without a night in a warehouse or sorting centre, unlike a parcel delivered the next day. In Edinburgh, as everywhere, we deliver to your customer during the hours their street is open to deliveries.

I order late in the morning for a customer in the Low Emission Zone: do you deliver today?

Yes, when the distance and your customer’s window allow, and always in a vehicle compliant with the zone, at no charge to you. You know the handover time before you confirm the booking; if the window cannot be kept, you know at that point.

Do you deliver the same day in Fife or the Scottish Borders?

Yes, our D0 deliveries cover the six council areas of the city region, from Fife to the Scottish Borders. Our planning algorithms work out the route from your site and the time of each stop, in town and in the countryside alike.

Do the bus lanes delay a same-day delivery?

No, because the time we give you already includes going around the peak-time bus lanes. Our couriers never use them to save time: the penalty is £100, and the lanes on Johnston Terrace and Bread Street are restricted 24 hours a day.

A handover at my customer’s takes more than 30 minutes: can you still deliver the same day?

Tell us how long it takes when you book: beyond 30 minutes on a yellow line, the council requires a paid dispensation, and we tell you there and then whether your handover needs one.

Does a shipment need to reach a customer in Edinburgh today?

Tell us where to load, where to deliver and by what time each recipient expects their order. You get back the vehicle assigned (compliant with the Low Emission Zone whenever one of the addresses is in the centre) and the planned time at each stop.
