As a transport professional, driving and stopping in Paris can be a real headache. It is important to know how to distinguish between areas dedicated to the delivery of conventional parking spaces. To do this, the reference color is yellow. Indeed, the delivery areas are delimited by a yellow ground marking.

In Paris, there are two types of delivery areas: protected areas and shared areas. But what differences are there between these two delivery areas? How to recognize them? Find out everything you need to know about delivery places in Paris in this article.

So-called “shared” delivery areas

Traditionally, the Highway Code prohibited motorists from parking in delivery places. However, since 19 December 2010, the legislation has been relaxed and has introduced article 4.417-10 into the Highway Code.

The City of Paris has therefore decided to extend the measure of sharing certain delivery areas to all motorists in the capital. Thus, 7,000 delivery areas previously reserved for delivery professionals have been made available to individuals since December 1, 2010.

This is how the shared areas whom allow:

  • Delivery drivers to carry out goods transactions from Monday to Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.
  • Drivers park their vehicles there at night between 20:00 and 07:00 in the morning, as well as on Sundays and public holidays.

To recognize them, we identify shared delivery areas thanks to their delimitation by a simple yellow dashed line.

So-called “sanctified” delivery areas

Les sanctuary areas are, for their part, areas strictly reserved for delivery operations.

Visually, they are recognizable by the uninterrupted double yellow line that frames them.

These seats are therefore reserved for delivery drivers and forbidden to motorists. In the event that a non-transport professional parks in a secure place, he is exposed to a amends which can range from €35 to €50 as well as at the impoundment of your vehicle.

In particular, they make it possible to supply businesses that are open early in the morning, such as grocery stores and bakeries.

What professional vehicles are concerned?

This delivery regime targets three types of vehicles:

  • Category 1: vans with an “S” floor area between 29 m² and 43 m²
  • Category 2: vehicles with a floor area “S” of less than 29 m²
  • Category 3: so-called “clean” vehicles such as electric vehicles, hybrids or vehicles powered by natural gas or meeting the European environmental standard “Euro 3”

What are the authorized hours for these delivery places?

You can make deliveries:

  • Between 22:00 and 07:00 for vehicles of category 1 above.
  • Between 22:00 and 17:00 for vehicles of category No. 2 above.
  • All day for clean vehicles with a floor area of less than 29 m²

How long can you stop at these delivery areas?

Drivers using delivery areas should limit themselves to one 30-minute stop to transfer goods or passengers. This encourages efficient sharing of delivery areas.

In addition, this duration is controlled by means of a parking disc. This disc should be placed behind the windshield of your vehicle with the arrival time clearly visible.
